Body Space
why creating space in the body is so important - and what does that actually mean?
our skeleton is made up of a series of bones allowing us to be upright, move and protect our vital organs - our bones are connected to one another by tendons ligaments and muscles which move the bones, in-between the bones or where the bones join we have cartilage and synovial fluid which act as shock absorbers and cushion the ends of the bones so that they don’t rub together - but instead glide freely in the joints. Our spine in particular has a lot of shock absorbers between vertebrae. We all remember this from basic school biology, Our bodies are designed to have space between our structures in order to move freely.
So what happens as we become older and modern-day lifestyles like sitting at a desk, standing all day, driving, repetitive movements, lifting children, etc etc. well our bodies become compressed, we don’t move enough and when we do its repetitive movement, alternatively we over train on tight compressed muscles and joints., ultimately leading to injury and further reduced range of movement.
How do we regain the space, well simple stretching and holds over a period of time will rebalance the body, posture adjustments, more movement, and adopting an approach of healing through movement as opposed to popping pain killers or worse still having to get surgery.
Our bodies are amazing and they give us chance after chance to look after them, but unfortunately, we eventually run out of chances.
